One rate for everybody. What you pay is not.

North Carolina sets a single statewide rate, then lets a carrier charge above it if you sign a consent-to-rate form.

Licensed agents. One form. Two minutes.

Plenty of people sign a consent-to-rate form without realising there was another option. Carriers also keep changing what they will write and where, and neither of those shows up on a renewal notice.

Why now, honestly

North Carolina works differently from most states. The Rate Bureau files one rate for the whole state, and that is the number a carrier is supposed to charge. A consent-to-rate form is how a carrier charges more than it, and it only takes effect if you sign. Plenty of people sign one without being told it was a choice, or what the alternative was.

Carriers have also tightened what they will write since Helene. Roofs, older homes and parts of the west are harder to place than they were, and the company that covered you happily three years ago may not be the one that wants you now.

Answer a few questions and licensed North Carolina agents take it from there. They know which carriers are still writing in your county and what the rate changes mean for your area.
