15%

North Carolina base rates rose 7.5% in June 2025 and another 7.5% in June 2026. The Rate Bureau has filed again for more.

Several carriers have pulled back from North Carolina or stopped writing new business, so the gap between what one company charges and the next is wider than it has been in years.

Why now, honestly

North Carolina base rates went up 7.5% in June 2025 and another 7.5% in June 2026 — around 15% compounded. The Rate Bureau originally asked for 42.2%, was settled back to that figure, and has since filed again for 68.3% over two years.

At the same time several carriers have exited the state or stopped writing new business. When a market contracts, the spread between what one company charges for the same house and what another charges gets much wider. That gap is what is worth finding.

You do not have to do the work. Answer a few questions and licensed North Carolina agents take it from there — they know which carriers are writing, where the roof-age thresholds sit, and how the wind deductible actually bites on the coast.
